Hello everybody

After having all 16 matches done on time in week #1, we had another great round last week. As of now we completed 14 our of 16 scheduled. The weather was not ideal for most of the week so we have to be very satisfied. Just by looking at the scores it seems like we had some hard fought battles. You can check the latest scores and updated standings on our web site. Thank you again for doing your best to stick with the schedule. The deadline to report round #3 matches is Monday May 25th.

An issue has come up regarding the utilization of subs. The questions is : Should we count points won by subs towards the league standings? I think we all agree that we should keep letting subs play when needed. This way a player who is available still gets to play a match that week instead of just recording a forfeit win 6-0,6-0 and missing a match.

I want to hear what you think about recording points that subs win. I am leaning more toward not counting these points. I think if a sub is above the skill level of the player who is getting replaced , the points that they would earn can skew the standings. I think we should have missing player forfeit their match 0-6,0-6, and have sub coverage only for the benefit of their opponent. This would leave only two options for players who are away for a week. They could play the match early, or forfeit.

Ideally we would have subs classified in levels so they would be replacing players of same level. (eg. level 3.0 sub covers for a 3.0 regular player). That way we might justify points won by subs , but figuring all the levels with so many new players would be a difficult task.

Let me know what you think. I think the forum would be the best place to discuss this. I posted a message about this under general discussion category.

Speaking of the forum, I encourage you to check it out especially if you are looking to play in between the league matches. I also informed 10 people on the sub list about this feature so we will see if any of them will try to use it. With a group of 42 players you should always be able to find a partner for a practice match. This forum is one way to have people post their availability or skill level they want to play against. As some of you know, last year we put together a doubles tournament/cookout at mayo. We had about 15 people there and it was fun to meet everybody, play some doubles and grill out. I think we should try to organize it again this year. If there is enough interest maybe we can put one together this spring as well. I will open a topic about this on the forum as well. You can submit your ideas and comments. I am thinking about setting it up for Sunday June 14th. Let me know what you think http://rochestertennisleagu.forumotion.net/forum.htm

So long for now, good luck in your coming matches. You can leave comments about this blog below.
