Hello everybody

Thank you all for doing a great job completing matches on time. We managed to complete all 24 matches in first two rounds. Third round is lagging behind a little. We have two forfeits, one match is scheduled on tuesday (extension), and one score is still pending.

It is really nice to see that players are flexible with their schedule and able to accommodate each other even when we have some tough tennis weather. Like I noted before , even though we know that the rules and format work, it all depends on player's commitment to this league. And I am happy to see that this year we have a really dedicated group.

I hope everybody is enjoying playing tennis this spring. We started earlier this year and I am glad that it worked out. It will extend our season and we all know how fast summers go by in Minnesota.

Last week I mentioned organizing a get-together doubles tournament. I think this Sunday May 31st would be a good day to set it up. We could start around 4pm at Mayo high school courts. Just like last year we can put together a potluck dinner and play some doubles. I think it would be a good thing to meet everybody and get to know each other better. Please let me know as soon as you can if you would be interested in joining. I also have a topic about this on the forum if you have some suggestions or comments about it.

It seems like more people are using the forum. It is a great place to have debates and to bring out new ideas. We had some good posts regarding the sub issue .

Thank you for your comments and ideas. I think most people agree that we shouldn't count points won by subs so I am making that a rule. Since I will be providing subs, players who are gone don't have to put any effort in finding their replacements. All they need to do is let me know they will be gone. Subs will get chance to play a match and the other player who is available will get to play that week as well. The league match will be a forfeit.

Players who are not available for an entire week can play their match ahead of time . I think the rules are very accommodating and we shouldn't have too many matches missed. And if we miss some it won't a big deal, summer is a busy time for everyone and sometimes it just gets impossible to schedule a match.

Just to remind you, first seven weeks of this session will determine your placement for the next session. Top 2 players in each group will play division I, 3rd and 4th division II, 5th and 6th division III, and bottom two will be in division IV.

In case someone quits in between sessions, top player in division below will get chance to move up. For example, if we lose someone who qualified to play in division I, whoever wins 9th place in session I will be asked if they want to move up. So by the time we move one player up from each group we will have a vacant spot in division IV that will be filled by one player on the waiting list.

Only problem with the above mentioned rule is that we might get someone from the waiting list who is 4.0 player . They would get to play in division IV which will be below their skill level. Session II kind of divides us by levels so most matches you are playing against someone very close to your skill level. Getting in these new players might disrupt division IV.

I am not sure what would be a good fix for this. I don't think we should just fill open spots from people on the waiting list according to what level they claim to be. All of us will play 9 matches to earn placement for the next session and I don't think it would be fair to just place someone from the waiting list lets say in division I even though they haven't played a single league match.

For you big debaters, it could be another great topic on the forum. I will post it under general discussion category, so if you feel one way or the other leave your comments. I see more people using the forum and I hope it will become a place where we can exchange ideas and opinions .

Also it would be nice to know if people who post their availability for practice matches get any responses. As we get more people visiting the forum it should get better.
