Hello RTL members
Fourteenth season of the Rochester Tennis League is coming up this spring.
Registration for session I (singles) starts March 15th. I will email you once the sign up link for returning players is ready. At this time only new players can register on our web site.
Session I singles begins April 29th and ends June 17th . Our singles league will maintain the same format with 7 matches in a round robin competition versus players within your division. Past results will be used to set up divisions for the coming season. We will try to place new players as close to their skill level as possible.
Doubles league starts in the second half of May and registration for it will begin after singles registration is finished.
We plan to run two sessions of doubles (each 6-7 weeks long). I think majority of doubles players liked flexible scheduling format we used in session II last year so we will continue with the same set up this year.
As in previous years, all returning players will play free of charge. New players joining us for the first time can register and pay one time registration fee in amount of $30 on our site www.rochestertennisleague.com
If you know anyone who might be interested in joining RTL please direct them to our site or they can email me for more info at rochestertennisleague@gmail.com . Thank you all for your efforts in spreading the word about the league over the years. Hopefully we can get another influx of new members this spring as it has been the case over the past 13 seasons. We will also be opening the league to some advanced level junior players younger than 18. These players will be allowed to the league on case by case basis.
Help entering scores
Once again we will be looking for a few volunteers who are interested in helping us enter weekly scores. If you would like to help this year please email me. It's a pretty simple process and we normally have one person editing scores for 2 divisions meaning they enter 8 scores every week.

Your positive review would be very helpful in promoting the league and attracting new players. These reviews / stars show up on google platforms (maps, google search, etc.)
I have been running a group that plays singles Sunday mornings at RTC. It's a nice opportunity to get ready for the outdoor season. We have about 60 players on the mailing list. There is no obligation to play any certain number of matches. I email everyone weekly to see who is available following Sunday. Non members are charged $22 for 1.5 hours of tennis, RTC members pay $14. You get a free can of balls per each court. Matches are set at 10am or 11:30am. I match up players of similar skill level. If anyone is interested in getting on this mailing list let me know. This would be a good chance for brand new players to play some pre season matches that would help us place them in an appropriate division once the league starts.
So long for this post. You will hear from me soon regarding session I sign up. Hope to see many of you come back for another fun season .

Arch Open
As you know, I have been co-organizing Arch Open charity tennis tournament last few years. We plan to set it up again this summer but exact date will depend on construction at Kutzky.
Inter league play
Some of you might remember that RTL team participated in eight inter league meets against Farmington Area Tennis league (2010-2014). It was a fun event to play in and a good opportunity to meet other local tennis enthusiasts. Unfortunately last few years we haven't been able to set it up.
Once again I plan to get in touch with FAT League organizers to see if we can bring back this competition. Teams consist of players at various levels. Everyone usually gets to play both singles and doubles. Most matches were played in Cannon Falls but we also met once in Rochester and once in Farmington. You will hear more about this in coming months.
Courts , Kutzky construction
I will keep you updated about this once the seasons starts but there is a pretty good chance that courts around town will be busier than usual during boy's high school season this year.
Kutzky Park construction might force Lourdes and Shafer academy teams to practice elsewhere. One possibility is that they will use JM courts after 5:30 (JM team practices 3:30-5:30) . Setting up RTL matches through the first session might require a bit more effort . We will need to keep eye on HS schedule when setting up matches and maybe explore other options. I am assuming that most RTL matches are played at Mayo, JM and Soldier's but there are a few other courts that could be a good back up like Younge Park, Allendale, Elmcroft, Fox Valley. I have them all listed on our web site with their addresses . I will try to check what condition they are in before the season starts.
For Sale page
A couple of players suggested adding a page to our web site where players would be able to post tennis equipment for sale. I am thinking maybe this could be used also for tennis services like stringing , lessons ets. I will look into it and see if we can set up something like that.
