Season closing post

Hello everyone

Thirteenth season of RTL concluded yesterday  with the final round of singles.

Session III match completion rate was around 86% which is impressive considering loss of daylight, less days to play matches and occupancy of high school courts. So great job everyone finishing your matches on time. I don't think session III has ever  had this many matches done. I thank you all for your dedication to the schedule and flexibility setting up matches. I hope everyone had a great session and many fun matches.
Our finals event was held on Saturday September  15th. We had 3 finals played that day and some social doubles on the side. Congratulations to 2018 champions and runner ups .

Women's singles :

Champion : Amy Heitz
Runner up : Dawn Wildfeuer

Men's level I champion : Daniel Chiang
Men's level I runner up : Josh Farr

Men's level II champion : Colin Sullivan
Men's level II runner up: Alex Pogue

All three finals were pretty competitive battles and fun to watch.  Session III scores and final standings are posted on our web site www.rochestertennisleague.com

This was another very successful season for RTL. In the first session we had a record attendance  with 80 players in men's, 24 in women's and 42 in doubles league. Doubles league had 14 teams (42 players) throughout the summer. We had a slight decline in women's singles participation as the season went on.. Our match completion rate stayed very good throughout the season (85-88%). Success of the league is measured by how many matches get played and how competitive matches are.  Thanks to all volunteers who helped us enter the scores this year. Your contribution to running the league is greatly appreciated.

Many of you sent me positive feedback about the league by email. It's great to see that so many players are  enjoying their RTL experience and to see so many come back year after year.

If anyone would like to leave a review for the league it can be done on our google page link below. Positive reviews help us promote the league better to those that find us online.

New ideas (thinking outside of the box)
If anyone has any suggestions about improving the league you can leave a comment under this blog post or email me.
We had couple of ideas brought up this summer.
One was to give 1 point to a player that wins a set but loses a match  rather than 0.5 as we do now.  Second idea was to have players play a third set even if one player already won first two. That extra set would be worth  0.5 points but of course wouldn't change the fact that winner is already decided.   Again comments about these ideas can be left below the post. If certain ideas get enough responses they can be discussed more next season.

Indoor tennis
Finally,  indoor season will be coming up soon. I am hoping to run Sunday morning singles again this winter at Rochester Tennis Connection.. If anyone who is not on the list already is interested to join  let me know. I email everyone every Monday to see who wants to play Sunday. Time is 10am or 11:30am. We play 1.5 hours of singles. I try to match up players at same skill level. Cost last year was $20 for public and $12 for RTC members. This might change for the coming season.  It's a nice way to occasionally play through the winter months.

Hope to see everyone back next spring . I usually send an email out March 1st about upcoming season.
See you out on the courts, hopefully we will have a few decent days left before the winter.
