Final session III standings can be viewed on our web site www.rochestertennisleague.com
Due to a good number of new memberships , we were able to pass about $700 worth of gift cards and trophies to the champions and divisional winners..
It was great to see many new players join in . All 3 singles champions joined RTL for the first time this year.
Thank you all for participating in another RTL session. I hope you had many fun and competitive matches. The league had another solid year . For the first two sessions our match completion rate stayed in mid 80s but just like in previous years it dropped down quite bit for the last session.
Big thanks to Dave P, John F, Soudabeh, Merry, Andrew F and Scott R, our assistant organizers who helped us enter the scores this year and run the league while I was away . I am sure all of our players appreciate your help and time spent keeping the league afloat.
Session III missed matches
In general there seems to be less and less enthusiasm to play as the 3rd session goes on (last week we had about half of the matches missed ). We completed only about 70% of the scheduled matches in the last session. Large number of incomplete matches negatively reflects on the league and for the second year straight I am considering going back to the single match elimination format for session 3. This would mean that only winners advance to play the next rounds and losers are eliminated . For example after week #1 (third week in August) , half of the league would be done for the season.
The single match elimination format was the standard session 3 format in the early days of the league To give everyone chance to play more tennis we added consolation rounds so everyone continued to play one match a week throughout session 3 .
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem there is enough interest for consolation rounds For example last week only half of the matches got done . There is no sense for organizers to continue setting up these extra rounds only to record DNPs. This format change issue will be revisited next spring before the season starts. If you have any feedback or suggestions about this let me know.
Sunday morning singles at RTC
Please email me if you would like to get on the list for Sunday morning singles at RTC indoor site .
Dan Schrafunagel ran this group last year but he is moving out of town so RTC offered me to coordinate the group during the indoor season.
Getting on the list doesn't require any commitment. Basically all players on the list will get an email each Monday asking if they would like to sign up to play a singles match following Sunday morning.
. Matches are played at 10am or 11:30am. Court fee is $18 for non members and $12 for RTC members. The court fee includes 1.5 hours of tennis and a can of balls. I will match up players who are interested to play that particular weekend and email you the match ups.
This is a nice opportunity to occasionally play tennis through the winter months . You can play as often as you wish, I will try my best to match up players of similar skill level.
So long for this year. See you all next spring.
