Session I update

Hello RTL members

We are half way through session I so here is a quick update about the league.

This is our 11th season and it's great to see that the league is continuing with  very strong numbers. RTL has  158 participants this session playing across various  branches (72 in men's/co-ed  singles, 16 in women's singles , 50 in doubles and 20 in the casual division)
 .
Match completion rates
The weather has been pretty challenging this spring  but match completion rate stayed at around 85% which is our average .  Thank you  for doing your best completing your matches under these difficult conditions.

Success  of the league is measured by how many matches are actually played . Naturally, we would like to reduce number of missed matches to a minimum. To be part of this league,  players are required to  keep up with the schedule and   communicate effectively with their opponents and league organizers. Playing in our competitive league requires a serious commitment and flexibility scheduling matches.
.Those that find the scheduling rules too strict  for their liking have an option to play in our casual division. Members of the casual division don't have a schedule to follow or scores to report. They can play as often as they want to. The casual contact list has players skill level noted on there so they  can chose to contact someone close to their skill level. This division is the best fit for those  looking for occasional matches without the stress of scheduling matches every week.

Registering for our competitive league and then missing half of the matches reflects negatively on the whole league. Your opponents are not happy because they don't get to play a match that week and DNPs and forfeits across the schedule undermine credibility of the league. To make the league a better experience for those that fully commit to it , we will try to be more active in migrating    those  who show a pattern of  missing matches to the casual division.

Responding to your opponents
Please respond to your opponent's email  as soon as possible. In today's age when almost everyone is attached to their mobile devices 24/7,  I think it's reasonable to expect a response  within 24 hours.
Please let me know if you are having trouble reaching someone or if your opponents are not responding timely.
.

Arch Open
Registration for Arch open (charity tennis tournament) is still open. Arch charity CEO Matthew Fatehi and I will be organizing this event again on Saturday June 4th. It's a great opportunity to play some competitive tennis , meet other local tennis enthusiasts and donate to  a good cause. Proceeds of the tournament will be donated to MN Adult and Teen Challenge.  Gift card awards will be passed to winners and runner ups in each level, food,  refreshments and tennis balls provided free of charge.
At this time we have players registered in 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 and 4.5 levels.   Registration fee for singles is $15 and doubles $20 per a team.

I hope to see many of you join us.

Session II registration for singles
I will email you once we start registration for the next session. I plan to get going with it sometime  next week.. Session II starts  June 20th. Your final session I standings will determine which division you will be playing next. Top two players in each level will be moving up and bottom two are dropping down. Sometimes we are able to bump up more then 2 players but that depends on how many  from the level above drop out. If two players end up with the same number of points, their head to head match determines who is ahead. If they had a DNP then total game differential is a tiebreaker.

Doubles league
Session I doubles started this week. We have 14 teams participating in two divisions. Teams are predominately made of players at 3.0 or below.. Thanks to Scott Regener for volunteering to  edit doubles scores this time around.

Aside from this we are starting a  4.0 invitational doubles division on  May 23rd. This division  consists of eight  4.0 players divided into 4 teams. It's an attempt to rebuild 4.0 doubles division which faded away in the  last couple of years.   Chris Jones is in charge of organizing this group.

Emails going to spam
My contact list seemed to reach a critical number last week. I sent an email about Arch open to all active and inactive RTL players and I found out later that some email providers started sending   my emails to their spam folder since then.  If you see my email in your spam folder you can mark it as  safe and hopefully that will do the trick.  To be on the safe side I started using my backup email  rochestertennisleague@gmail.com to send messages for now .  You can still send emails to my old email maksimlecic@hotmail.com , they will be  forwarded to my gmail t.

To avoid compromising another email account  I will probably have to start using Mail Chimp service  when emailing  all contacts.

So long for now. Have fun out on the courts and good luck in your upcoming matches.
