Another season of the Rochester Tennis League concluded last Sunday. Our end of the season gathering was at the RTC indoor site. It included men's and women's championship matches and doubles for the rest of the group.
Both finals went to 3 sets. Merry Morris ended up winning the women's league edging Karen Borup in three sets. On the men's side Tuan Truong and Felix Diehn collided in the second consecutive final. They were pushing each other to the limits in what it an epic final. Unfortunately after two and a half grueling sets Felix had to retire in the third due to severe muscle cramps. Final score( 6-7,7-5,2-1 ret.) Tuan ended up taking the champions trophy for 3rd consecutive year. Congratulations to both runner ups on a great effort and entertaining matches.
Congratulations to all session 3 champions:
Men's Tuan Truong
Women's Merry Morris
Men's bottom 32 Scott Plath
D1 doubles Jones/Pewowaruk/Lahr
D2 doubles Day/Day/Day

Thank you all for participating in the league this year. I hope you had a great time It's nice to see that the league is still growing and offering more opportunities to play recreational tennis year after year. We had a record participation during session I this year (132 players). Our match completion rate in session 3 stayed solid around 80% (195 scheduled and 33 missed). Women's and doubles leagues continued to do extremely well with 88.5% matches done in women's and 89% in doubles. Men's rate dropped to 77% . It seems like tennis burnout catches up during this time of the year and we recorded more forfeits and DNPs then earlier in the season.
One thing we added this year was doubles league through the outdoor season. After testing it out in 2012 for only one session, this year we expanded the doubles through sessions 2 and 3. Division I had 7 or 8 teams and D2 had either 4 or 5 teams. This competition seems to be taking off nicely and hopefully it will expand in coming years.
I wanted to thank everyone that helped us enter scores this year (Dave P,Art, Steve S, Chris J, Merry, Dustin). Everything went smooth and you did a great job keeping the league afloat. Thanks to Keegan for setting up the inter-league meet this summer and Chris for overseeing the doubles branch of RTL.
Indoor season
Those of you interested in playing indoor tennis will find plenty opportunities through USTA leagues and local clubs. If you are interested in USTA you can get more info from Brian Davies

From what I know it will be an indoor doubles league mirroring our doubles league set up, running from the first week in Oct. through the second week in Nov. (6 week season), and it is open to everyone, no matter if you are a member of the club or not. The two teams playing set up the time they'd like to play at RTC. Fees would be court time for each match (so basically an 8-12 dollar fee per match), and if people are not members, it would be a one-time 20 dollar fee for entering the league. There are going to be 6.0, 7.0, and 8.0 levels (for both men and women, but no mixed doubles yet), but no USTA membership is required . There are no sectionals - the winners do not advance .
So long for now, you will be hearing from me again next spring . Hope to see you all back next year.
Max
