Hello everybody
We finished session 2 last week, and started session 3 right away with preliminary round matches.
Forty players participated in session 2, they were divided in 4 divisions (levels). After 9 weeks of round robin format we all had a chance to play everyone in our division once. We had a lot of very competitive matches, and probably most will agree that this is their favorite time of the season. Our match completion rate ended up around 86% which is excellent, and in line with previous years. I thank you all for doing a great job setting up your matches and keeping up with the schedule.
For the first time after 2006 season we had a co-ed session . Providing there is enough interest we might do it next season as well.
Also for the first time we had awards for players winning their divisions . Division winners were awarded a gift card from Sports Authority ($25) and coupons from the same store ($25).
Congratulations to the divisional winners
Division 1- Tuan Troung
Division 2 - Anantha Santhanam
Divison 3 - Dustin Kuchera
Division 4 - Nathan Marcou
Wild card - Toni Lillie
Session 3
Session III has all players back in the same group. This session is a single match elimination tournament ( sudden death format ), only winners advance to play next round. We started with 38 players and after preliminary round the group was down to 32. This week we are playing first round, and matches need to be reported by Sunday night September 5th. Keep in mind that extensions are not allowed during this session, and deadline to play is Sunday not Monday as it was during the last session. If a match doesn't get done and nobody forfeits on their own, the higher seed advances to the next round. As explained in my previous post a 10 point tie break instead of 3rd set can be played only if both players agree to it. The match ups will be sent to your e mail every Monday and I will be posting scores on the web site.
End of the season party
The end of the season party is scheduled for Sunday October 3rd at 2pm at the Rochester Athletic Club. Hopefully two players left to play the championship match will be available to play that day. The RAC is hosting this event, and it is free for participants of our league. They will provide refreshments and tennis courts will be reserved for our league. The event will start with refreshments and our championship match. Around 3:30 or whenever championship match is done , they will have us on the courts for drills/doubles play. It should be a great way for us to end the season, and for the RAC to showcase their tennis facilities. As we get closer to the date I will need to see how many of you will be coming. I will probably send an e mail out next week asking you if you can make it or not.
Email issue
I had some trouble getting e mails to 4 of you with charter accounts last week. I tried sending it from my gmail, hotmail and work e mail and nothing worked. Three of you submitted a different non charter e mail and I believe John E is the only one left with charter. These issues tend to resolve after few days, but missing an e mail can sometimes delay your matches. I am not sure what the problem is , but it seems to have something to do with charter if emails from 3 different providers are not deliverable. I try to stay on top of these issues since e mail is how we set up matches and report scores. I also noticed that some e mails didn't make it to my hotmail account from Mayo, it seems like it has been working fine now. I might have to put a contact me box on the web site so you can get in touch with me this way if your e mail comes back as undeliverable.
