Newsletter #4

Hi everyone

Session I is concluding this week. Last round matches will be determining final standings and who moves up or down a division. In case 2 players end up with same number of points their head to head score will be determining who is ahead . Our standings sheets are set to use game differential as a tiebreaker through the session but at the end when all scores are in we will compare head to head scores and make final adjustments for those that end up with same number of points.

Top two players in each division will move up and bottom two will drop down. In some situations (when division above has vacancies) we are able to bump a 3rd place player or bump down only 8th but only top two are guaranteed to move up.

This was a difficult  spring for outdoor tennis. With so much rain and wind, it's great to see that our match completion rate hasn't dropped down too much. Thank you all for trying your best to finish matches by the deadlines.

Session II
Past Sunday  was the last day to register for returning players. It looks like we will end up with 9 divisions in men's league again and probably  2 in women's. We also have 14 players in the casual division, and some new players joining us. As of now men's league is short one player in division 7.  Women's has some openings left.

DNP vs. Forfeit
We have two ways of recording incomplete matches. Sometimes this can be confusing so from time to time I like to refresh everyone about it.

Basically DNP score is recorded when both players are responsible for missing a match. This score penalizes both players by taking away 1/2 of a point from their total.

Now if only one player was not available or had very limited availability we expect this player to forfeit his match to his opponent . In this case score is recorded 6-0,6-0 FF, winner gets 3 points and loser gets 0. We try not to force forfeits but rather leave it to the players and their sense of good sportsmanship to forfeit their own matches when they were not available.

Incomplete matches need to be reported to us just like any other score. One of the players should report it either as forfeit or DNP.

Inter league

We are checking if another meet with Farmington  Area League is possible. They have new leadership this season so it's uncertain if they will  be willing to continue the tradition. More about this in coming weeks.

Awards
As in previous years all 12 division champions will receive  Sports Authority gift card awards.
Depending on number of new players joining us hopefully this can be done in session II as well.
