Newsletter #1

Hello RTL members

We had a solid  start of the season with 89% of the matches completed  in the first two rounds. Hopefully we will keep going strong without too many incomplete  matches.    Doubles league did exceptionally well , they completed  all matches so far.

We have two injured  players  in the women's league that probably won't be able to play the rest of the session. I might try to fill those spots so their opponents have someone to play against. I tend not to replace people midway through the session because it can skew standings. So subs will play only if their opponents agree to count these matches.

New players can register onour web site for session II which starts June 30th.  We will start session II sign up for the exiting players in about 2-3 weeks.

RTL  expanded in numbers for the 9th straight season. Men's singles including wild card division ended up with 72 players, women's singles 24 and doubles 54. Thank you all for your dedication to the league and spreading the word about it . I hope everyone is having great time out on the courts.

Awards
Gary Hach volunteered to buy medals for division I doubles 1st 2nd and 3rd place teams. Division 1 doubles is the only division in this session with playoff format so we hope to have final matches played same day and pass those medals then. Thanks to Gary for his contribution to the league.

I will be sending   gift card awards to the rest of session I divisional champions (8 in men's , 3 in women's and D2 doubles).
Depending on number of new players we get (fees collected)  I plan to   pass gift cards to  session II divisional winners as well.  Session III champions will be getting  trophies.

Moving up / dropping down
As in previous seasons of the singles , top two players in each division will be moving a level up for session II, consequently bottom two players will be dropping down.

Doubles league
We had a great opening round of doubles, all matches were completed and reported. Spring weather is always so unpredictable and doubles league is effected by it even more since  we have dedicated evenings and rescheduling is never an easy thing.  Chris Jones (doubles league coordinator)  has been writing a blog dedicated to RTL doubles, you can access it at the  link below

Last post has a very informative interview with one of the pros at Rochester Tennis Connection.

Assistant organizers
I wanted to thank Dave Pewowaruk, Art Smet , Dustin Kuchera, John Fritz , Jocelyn Coy, Merry Morris, and Christopher Jones for helping us  enter scores and update standings through session I.  I am sure your efforts are greatly appreciated by all RTL members.  There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes to keep the league  afloat  and I am thankful that so many of you volunteered to help.

Interleague
First inter league meet is tentatively scheduled for Saturday June 14th. You will be getting an email from out team's captain Keegan Hakala with more details. Hope to see a large turnout from our league.

Have a great week and see you out on the courts.
