Season closing newsletter

The fifth season of the Rochester Tennis League was closed on Sunday October 3rd with the end of the season event hosted by the RochesterAthletic Club. The event included championship match between Tuan Troung and Nick Redamnn, doubles drills , and doubles play. We had 3 hours and 30 minutes reserved for our league, the event was free for our members . We had a good turnout with 21 people showing up. In a great final match Nick outlasted Tuan 6-3,6-3. It was an enjoyable match to watch, and I hope to see these two come back next season. After the match, the champion , runner up and women's champion were awarded trophies.

This was a great way to finish the season, I am very thankful that RAC was willing to host this event. It was a nice opportunity for us to get together one last time this year. I think everyone had a great time, and we hope to set something like this in the spring as a season opener for us. Thanks to Kate Fish for coming up with this idea, and bringing it up to the RAC . Their tennis director Scott Boyle did a great job at setting this up. He was very flexible in accommodating our group and our schedule.

Season summary
Just like previous years , the league expanded once again. We had 40 players in men's/co-ed league and between 10 and 12 in women's division. We also had wild card division for players who signed up late. Session I had 59 players total, and that was the record attendance. The season got stretched even more to accommodate a larger group. We started in the first week of May and finished on October 3rd. Anyone who played all 3 sessions had an opportunity to complete at least 17 matches this summer. Our match completion rate stayed very consistent at around 80-85 %. We had a very dedicated group of players once again. I thank you all for trying your best to set up your matches and keep up with the schedule.

Aside from the RAC hosting the final match this season, we had a lot of other new features . For the first time we were able to set up an inter league match in Cannon falls against FAT (Farmington tennis league) league. Gift card awards were passed to session II divisional winners, and also we awarded trophies to session III winners . We were able to pass these awards because all new members who joined us in 2010 were charged a sign up fee (10 dollars per a session ) and also some of you who joined before 2010 season made voluntary donations to the league.

In the 2nd session we opened the men's league to some women's division players who wanted to join the men's group. This was first time after the 2006 season that we have a co-ed league. The women's league still went on as before. We will probably do this next year as well.

Our web site had some changes as well this year. I used a new web builder/host this season and it worked well with almost no down time. I purchased a custom domain name for the site so we are now at http://www.rochestertennisleague.com/

It is nice to see this league grow and get better each year. I hope to see you all back next season. I usually start the sign up in April for those of you who played previous year. So long for now, this should be my closing newsletter for 2010. See you next year.
