Hello everyone
The outdoor tennis season is winding down.
In the session III final match Nick Redmann defeated Tony Collins 6-4,6-3. So Nick R. ended up winning the session III. Congratulations to Nick who also won sessions I and II this year. I thank you all for doing a great job keeping up with the schedule all season long. Thanks to Ashley Bryant and Dave Hodge for a great job running the league while I was gone, I am sure everybody appreciates your efforts.
Here are session II division winners :
Division I Nick Redmann
Division II Mark Hessler
Division III Dave Pewowaruk
Division IV Lars Rasmussen
This was another great season for the league. We expanded from 24 to 32 players in men's league and women's league had 12. Aside from the record attendance this was the longest season as well. To accommodate the expansion we started earlier in May , so our season was 21 weeks long. The players showed a great dedication to the schedule, and we ended up with 234 matches completed out of 283 scheduled which puts us at about 82% completion rate.
You can view scores and standings from the previous 4 seasons on our web site under the history tabhttp://www.rochestertennisleague.com/
I really appreciate your dedication to the league and efforts to complete matches on time. As this league continue to grow, I keep getting more and more positive feedback , and it feels good to see that everyone is enjoying the experience and having fun playing tennis. I hope we will keep expanding in coming years and that the league will keep getting better with more and more opportunities to play tennis.
As you know I tried to put together an inter league meet with FAT league this summer which would also be a team competition. It didn't work out this year but I hope we can do it next summer.
Our web site has seen a lot of changes. We have some new features on there like the newsletter, forum, list of tennis courts with maps, etc.
I have been trying to set up a doubles team tournament this fall. It would be a nice way to finish the season and play some more tennis. We had 14 people coming to a meet last Sunday but due to bad weather it had to be canceled. Players were divided in two teams and the idea was to set up some doubles and singles matches where two teams would compete against each other.Weather permitting we will try to get together for this event next Sunday at 2pm at Mayo high school.
So far I have 9 people coming. If you want to join us let me know by Tuesday.
As you know Dave Hodge is in charge of Sunday morning indoor tennis at RTC, so you can contact him if you want to play over the winter.
If the weather allows I might set up more team competitions this fall.
So long for now, I hope to see you all back next year.
Max
