Newsletter #11

-

Hello everybody

We completed week #2 with 15 matches done on time, and one forfeit . It was another strong week with a lot of competitive matches. Unfortunately , Peter Hahn had to pull out of the competition due to an injury . His replacement is Steve Robinson , I already updated the division I schedule so it reflects this change. Also, Halil from division III will be gone for next three weeks, I have Tim Zavala covering his matches.

Rule refresher
According to the rules, matches need to be completed and reported by Monday night. Players can request one day extension and play their match on Tuesday if they were unable to complete it by the deadline. They have to request an extension by Monday night deadline otherwise the match gets recorded DNP. Players are allowed to take two extensions per a session.

If a match gets recorded DNP , both players lose half of a point as a penalty for not playing.

Some of you might wonder why the rules have to be so firm , and why we can't postpone a match for lets say Wednesday. In my opinion , the rules are actually very flexible. You get 8 days to complete one match (both Mondays count) and if you have effective communication with your opponent, you have more than enough time to set it up. All matches can be played ahead of time, so if you know you will be gone 3 weeks from now, you can try to arrange that match ahead of time.

Postponing matches usually causes a domino effect where player's next matches get pushed back too and after couple of weeks schedule becomes a mess. Even extension matches sometimes can cause this. Playing on Tuesdays already limits your availability for your next match since two days are already gone.

Our scheduling system proved to be very successful in the past 4 years. It gives you enough flexibility to arrange your matches around your busy summer schedule. Players join this league with an intention to play regularly once a week and this system allows them to do that.
Like I said before we have a really dedicated group this year, and I thank you all for your flexibility and efforts to finish your matches on time.

Past results
I also wanted to let you know that I have all past results and standings stored under the history tab on our web site. If you scroll down to the bottom of that page you will see links for previous seasons and sessions.

So long for now, have a great week and good luck in your coming matches.
