Session I schedule is ready

Hello everybody

The schedule is done and ready to be viewed on our web site.
Please double check your schedule for the first 5 weeks to make sure everything looks good on there. If you see a mistake on there, you are playing someone twice or you can't find your name please e email me as soon as you can. I went over it couple of times and it should all be correct

Rules refresher

Session I starts next Monday, April 26th. Week #1 matches need to be reported by Monday night May 3rd. As always, I recommend getting in touch with your opponents early in the week to set up your matches. Please go to our web site to verify your contact information, let me know if I need to change or add something on there.

I recommend submitting an e mail address that you can check from home , otherwise submitting your phone number would be helpfull.

All matches not done before the deadline will be disqualified and players will lose .5 points as a penalty. To make it fair to everyone , I will have to enforce this rule without exceptions.

If you are unavailable for an entire week you will need to forfeit your match and request a sub. This way your opponent would still get to play that week (if a sub is available), but you will still forfeit the match. Points won by a sub won't count.

I hope that in the spirit of fair play, players will be forfeiting their matches on their own when they feel they were not available enough that week. I will try to stay away from making decisions who was more or less available, so unless one player forefeits I will be recording these matches DNP (did not play).

One day extension rule

Players can ask for one day extension if they can't complete their match on time. They need to let me know by Monday night deadline that they will need an extension to play their postponed match on Tuesday. If I don't hear from them , their match gets disqualified and recorded as DNP. Each player is allowed to take two extensions per a session.

So basically you have 8 days (including two mondays) plus one day extension to complete a match.

Scorekeeping

Matches are played to win in three sets with an option for players to agree to stop playing at 1-1 and call it a tie.

So possible scores will be:
2-0 (winner gets 3 points, loser gets 0 points)

2-1 (winner gets 3 points, loser gets 0.5 points )

1-1 (each player gets 1 point) both players must agree to stop playing at 1-1

DNP (match not completed on time, both players get -0.5 points // players get half of a point deducted from their total points)

FORFEIT (Player that forfeits gets 0 points his opponent 3 points match recorder 6-0,6-0)

If set score is 6-6 players play tie break (first to win 7 points with two points differential), except in third decisive set where they play to win by 2 games (for example 8-6,9-7 etc). Players can agree to play a third set tie break if they both prefer that option . If they both don't opt for tie break they get to play to win by two games.

Since the schedule is already set up you are welcome to play your first round matches ahead of time. We practicly have 2 weeks to put in the first match so I hope our completion rate will be very high.. All your matches can be played ahead of time, but they can't be postponed. So if you know you won't be available for a week later in the session you can try to play that match ahead of time.

Tournament

I wanted to thank those of you who showed up for the pre-season tournament past Sunday. We had 14 players divided in two teams compeating in various doubles and singles matches for three rounds. It was a great oportunity to get together, meet some new players and have fun playing tennis. For those of us playing just in the summer this was a good way to shake the rust off .
I might try to set up some more gatherings like this. I also plan to get in touch with FAT league manager up in Farmington for an inter league meet that we talked about last year. I will keep you posted about that.

Challenger division
As I mentioned before, we will have a challenger division this year. This group will play parallel with the main branch. It will have players of all skill levels and I hope to get 8 people for it. These players couldn't get in the main branch because we already filled all 40 spots earlier this month. So instead having them wait for an opening, this year they will play each other and have same format and rules as the main draw. Open spots at the end of session I will be filled by players from the challenger league. So if you have someone interested to join the league it's not too late. I have about 4-5 players interested in challenger league so far.

So long for now, good luck in your coming matches.

Max
